Another Quarter

I am hoping to update a little more. I am starting another quarter. My drawing class and photography.... hmmmm, NAILED IT! I got a GPA of 4.0 right now. Can't be more excited

My Photog class was BW on real film. I have finally bonded with the 35mm slr Ian bought me all those years ago. My instructor was very happy with my eye, my lab work and final projects.

My instructor was a latino Louis Black, he started most rants waving his arms slightly trying to gesture while saying "My therapist tells me to just come out and say what bothers me, so here's the thing".

This mainly had to do with students phones beeping, trio's used in a dark room while we watch an instructional video, and people leaving while he talked. He always threatened to have a serious lecture on student etiquette and yet fit at least one rant in every lecture.

I loved my drawing class but thought I wasn't progressing very far with my B+ on an A effort. I learned a ton but she was giving A's to work she liked which could be handed in a month late. Yet I spent twice the time on my projects and only one A. I was never late or absent. I handed everything in when it was due and poured my heart in to it.

I was translating her response to me as negative and thought I wasn't getting it. Then last day she gives me an A and says I put in so much work and came so far and was one of the most improved. RRR? I felt that way and finally had it validated.

It was funny because I was awed by some of the raw talent by the other students and was convinced I sucked. At the end I looked at one student I idolized and I surpassed her abilities. Our final project was a self-portrait and I was very happy with mine.

Blocking it out is so hard but crucial. Measure twice, stroke once and start light (START LIGHT) which was the hardest thing for me. The magic happens a little after the details fade in. Finding the shape of that one shadow, seeing it and making your hand duplicate it. It is so cool when it "comes to life". From that point time fades and the roll takes over. I am done with a drawing when it says and I step back a couple of feet and go "That's it".

That is my school adventure in a nut shell. PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT IF YOU'VE STOPPED BY.
