I am sitting in the cafeteria at DeAnza and thought I would make an entry. My first class was this morning and it was my photoshop class which I was really excited about. My instructor is great and I had spoken with her before about where I should go with my photo classes.
My business class is at 12:30 and I look forward to taking a class that isn't creatively taxing. I need to learn the basics so if I get anything going creatively speaking I'll have some small business info. to work with.
The direction I see this going is portraits by individual commissions. I see the idea of what I did on the "Wood Sprites Home Forest" turning in to making similar things for people. For example a fiftieth wedding anniversary is a special mile stone. I want people to come to me after seeing my examples and request a custom piece for themselves or as a gift. I meet with them like a tattoo artist does, collect items that influence their piece and make the portrait. For instance a mother is very proud of her sons football career in college. So we take his jersey and photos she may have, include photos I could also take of them and add then construct a work of art that tells his story.
My class schedule for Winter '08
Photoshop, Mon/Wed 8am-10am
Intro to Bus., Mon/Wed 12:30-2:30
So if you ask me I will persecute you for not reading this...... LOL, as if.

A Wood Sprite's Home Forest
Artist: Tamara McDougall.
2ft X 4ft plywood. Mixed medium. Mostly pastel, color pencil, and photos collaged.
Final project #4 check!
My final project was wide open with a couple of guidelines once again. It was to be a minimum 18x24, it had to involve collage and had to mix atleast 3 mediums.
In this I am the big sprite and I am at my favorite place in Calgary. It is this bend in the river Ian and I coined as the "turn around spot". It is a half hour walk from our house and I miss that bike path so much. My elfish hair lends itself to this and I don't know why but as soon as I thought of the shape and size I wanted to use I immediately saw wings coming off the picture. Then when I found the wood I wanted I saw little angels in the grain of the wood. I had wanted to use a Canada theme before and nothing fit till this. I am at the family tree and that is where my roots will always be.
I teared up when it came to life and is the most personal piece I've done. The only reason I am in it is to make it as personal as it is and that was the hard part, so please don't see vanity. If you must blame my hairdresser cause that is where the wood sprite thing came from.

Ode To Ripley
18x24 drawing paper. Color pencil
This was my first project in my Intermediate drawing class. I had never worked with prisma color pencils before and really enjoyed working on her face. Although I think her chair translates the best and she looks a little faint in the photo it is a little different in person.
